    Vin Scully was born on November 29, 1927, in The Bronx, New York. He was the second of four children born to Catholic immigrants from County Roscommon, Ireland. As a child, Scully was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and dreamed of one day becoming a broadcaster. After graduating from Fordham Preparatory School in 1945, Scully attended Fordham University and graduated with a degree in economics in 1949.

    Career and Accomplishments

    In 1950, at the age of 22, Scully began his broadcasting career with the Brooklyn Dodgers. He was the youngest person to ever call a Major League game. In 1958, the Dodgers moved to Los Angeles, and Scully remained with the team, calling games for the Dodgers for the next 67 years. During his time with the Dodgers, Scully called some of the most memorable games in baseball history, including Don Larsen’s perfect game in the 1956 World Series and Kirk Gibson’s walk-off home run in the 1988 World Series. He was also the voice of the NBC Game of the Week from 1983 to 1989.

    Personal Life

    Scully married his wife, Sandra, in 1973. The couple had two children, Michael and Catherine. Scully was a devout Catholic and a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also an avid golfer and a member of the Lakeside Golf Club in Burbank, California.
